From Webmaster Daniel:

N.B.: We recently made technical changes to The-Easel.com that render much of this article out of date. That said, our endorsement of Firefox and other quality browsers still stands and we encourage you to switch.

If you are running Microsoft Internet Explorer on Microsoft Windows you are probably not experiencing the Easel the way it was meant to be seen. Unfortunately, MSIE on Windows fails to properly render 24-bit trasparent PNG files, which are used frequently on the Easel. On this platform, the trasparent PNGs appear to have a gray, opaque background. This is MSIE improperly rendering PNG files.

The solution to this problem is for you to switch to a modern, standards-compliant web browser. There are many choices when it comes to higher quality web browsing. Your options include Opera ($39), Netscape (Free), Firefox (Free), and other Mozilla variants.

Our Browser Recommendation

Much of the Easel’s staff use Mozilla Firefox and we recommend it for our visitors. It’s fully featured, highly compliant with web standards, and renders our website properly. Firefox is the primary browser used to develop the Easel website. That said, here are some important features that may bring you into the modern age of web browsers:

Get Firefox today and experience The-Easel.com the way it was intended to be seen. Think of it like seeing a movie on the big screen, instead of at home on your dinky little CRT.

Technical Information

Despite the fact that PNG is the W3C’s suggested image format and despite the fact that all other modern browsers (including MSIE for Macs) render transparent PNGs properly, the Windows version of IE doesn’t handle them correctly. Short of reformatting all the images, or doing some rather clumsy and Google-unfriendly PHP hackery, there is very little of anything we can do to supress this problem.

  1. hello, brothers and sisters of blood. it seems I cannot email you fools without some password nonsense. I’m trying to locate a few old poems, i.e. “publix paper…” etc. my copies have gone missing. PLEASE EMAIL ME if you have any idea where these poems may be hiding. Their family is very concerned.
