1. Diversion Mary – I really don’t have much to say, unless you want to hear me gush about surreal art. (If you do, let me know, I will be happy to gush to you in private for a small fee.) There is so much art to look at on this site from ONE person it rather overwhelmed me at first. I am still a bit confused, wandering around. The navigation could use work, it is easy to get lost on this site and have no idea how to get to what you want (this confusion may just be mine, I like my websites to spell things out clear as day). But it is worth it for stumbling upon really cool art.
2. Exploding Dog – I didn’t really appreciate the genius and simplicity of explodingdog.com for a long time. It is one of those sites that you really have to browse through and learn to love. It won’t happen right away, unless you immediately see a title that you adore on the front page – it could happen. The artist who runs this site is Sam. He draws pictures from titles that are sent to him. He somehow charmed me and convince me he was indeed an artist with stick figures and primary colors. Let him do the same to you.
3. Deviant Art – “Where art meets application”, by far the best and biggest gallery site on the net. It has lots of cool features available to members. Membership is completely free and with it comes your own “home” page with personalized info about you, your favorites, a journal and a gallery of any original art/photography/writing/skins you choose to post. The only major drawback is that the level of suckage is directly proportional to the size of the site (i.e. huge site = lots of suckage). Thankfully the same rule applies to uber-awesomeness. It also features some really cool people…Like Whitney, Joel and Audrey of The Easel staff (I’m not telling you where – you will have to find us for yourself) and more than a few artists featured in the magazine. The Image used is Fella, Deviant Art’s mascot.
