1.Portrait Artist - A must for anyone attempting to draw faces or people. This site is the cool! It is very informative and easy to navigate. It covers everything from facial proportions, coloring and shading to digital mediums. This site even has a special section for beginner artists (Drawing for Newbies) with special tips for those who are just starting their artistic careers. The guy who wrote this thought of everything and is obviously one talented cat. Check it out!
2. Fantasy Art Resource Project – Okay, don’t knock it just because it is fantasy art resource project. In addition to tutorials for drawing castles and mermaids, this site has a lot of cool and helpful stuff for just about any artist (for example, there is an excellent tutorial on drawing hair in pencil). In addition to tutorials for artists, there are also tips for writers and for those seeking to make a business of their work (like a guide to pricing your artwork). There is something for everyone here. Check it out, you may learn something.
3. Downloads.com – Okay, so this isn’t exactly a tutorial site. What I want to focus on here is the Design & Photo > Image Editing section of this site. Priceless. If you are an artist and don’t have an image editing program on your computer I highly recommend buying one, or better yet, downloading one for a free from this site! I would go with Paint Shop Pro, which is basically the poor man’s version of Adobe Photoshop. It has almost all the same features for a fraction of the price, and there is a free trial available off this site. Learn to use it and come to love it. This is great for everything to coloring your scanned in pencil sketches to adjusting the brightness and contrast to erasing those smudges and pencil lines that you just couldn’t get to go away. Takes some experimenting (and perhaps a few mistakes) to get the hang of, like all software.
